South Phoenix Hosts Record-Breaking EV Ride and Drive!

Community, Collaboration, and Clean Transportation Shine

On Saturday, April 19th, DRIVE Electric Arizona brought the excitement of electric vehicles to South Phoenix for the very first time—and the results were electrifying. In partnership with the City of Phoenix, SRP, and the Valley of the Sun Clean Cities Coalition, this community-focused Ride and Drive event exceeded all expectations with over 200 EV test drives, 38 electric vehicles on-site, including 21 models available to drive, and an exciting appearance by a GMC Hummer EV.

Attendees had the chance to get behind the wheel of cutting-edge electric vehicles while learning directly from EV owners, nonprofit advocates, and local sustainability leaders.

The event drew incredible support from a wide range of vendors and exhibitors, who helped transform the South Mountain Community College campus into an interactive hub of clean energy education. A huge thank-you goes out to:

Plug In America, San Tan Ford, ELAINE Transportation, Courtesy Chevrolet, Courtesy Polestar, Courtesy Volvo, Ohmmu Energy, City of Phoenix Office of Sustainability, Tiger Mountain Foundation, Shining Light Foundation, APS, City of Phoenix Water Services Department, South Mountain Community Library, ICF / SRP HEA, Trees Matter, Our World Energy, and Roll & Charge.

We also want to give a huge shoutout to our dedicated volunteers whose unwavering support and enthusiasm were essential in making this event such a success. Your commitment helped ensure smooth operations, warm welcomes, and meaningful interactions throughout the day.

"I was able to learn quite a bit and I especially enjoyed talking with EV owners to get questions answered. There was also a great mix of vehicles and overall it was just a great experience."
Devin Darlek, ADOT Equipment Services State Fleet Administrator

"The highlight of the event for me was meeting other EV enthusiasts as well as talking to the public about EVs."
Event Volunteer

"Highlights for me included the diversity of people, questions, and helpfulness of the main crew! And whatever you did to bring in the GREAT weather, thank you!!!"
Out-of-State Volunteer

This event demonstrated what’s possible when community members, public agencies, and industry leaders come together in support of a cleaner, more sustainable future. Most importantly, it highlighted the power of clean transportation to uplift and engage a diverse, vibrant community—bringing people together around opportunity, innovation, and environmental equity.
